I remember the day I had that “AHA” moment of realizing I wanted to work with the elderly. I was working as a social worker at Georgetown University Hospital. During one of our weekly department meetings we had a guest speaker who told us about geriatric care management. It was a relatively new field at the time, and that was the first I had heard of it.
Working in adult medicine at the hospital, I had re-discovered my love of the elderly population. That very day, after hearing our guest speaker, I decided this was what I wanted to do, and from then on, that was it. Everything I did, getting licensure, obtaining certification, starting a business, etc, was directed toward being able to do this work.
Doing this work has been, and continues to be, a privilege.
So, since 2000, I’ve worked with hundreds of elders, families and employees of organizations to assist and guide them through the challenges of aging and caregiving. Among them are organizations such as CareGuide, LifeCare, Ceridian, United Healthcare, Seniorlink and the BrightFocus Foundation.
I have assisted employees from many organizations, including the Department of State, Dept of Labor, Dept of Defense, Homeland Security, Fannie Mae, Verizon Communications, and employees of small and midsize organizations.
I am a member of the Aging Life Care Association (formerly the National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Managers), the Mid-Atlantic Aging Life Care Association, and the National Association of Social Workers.
